2 Simple Habits That Change Everything
A few days ago, a man came to meet me with a single request: half an hour of my time. That conversation stretched to almost three hours.
He was experienced in his field, hardworking, and genuinely knowledgeable in his business. But something kept going wrong — accidents, financial losses, unexpected setbacks one after another.
As I listened, I realized this wasn’t just about business strategy. The question of how to get blessings in business and life is often answered in the simplest places we overlook.
I shared two pieces of advice with him. Both are simple. Both are backed by deep wisdom that goes far beyond business.
His Story — And Why It Felt Familiar
He wasn’t struggling because he lacked skill or effort.
He was struggling despite both.
That pattern — trying hard, doing everything right, and still facing constant problems — is something many people experience but few talk about openly.
In my experience, when regular losses and hardships keep repeating without a clear business reason, the answer is rarely found in a spreadsheet.
Advice One: Go Back to Your Father
His mother had passed away. May Allah grant her the highest place in Jannah.
His father was alive, living in their village. He was healthy, independent, could perform his own ablution and prayers without help.
I told him to visit his father for at least one or two days every month.
He said: “But he doesn’t need me. He’s fine on his own.”
I said: “That is not the point.”
What Those Two Days Are Really For
The purpose is not to go because your father needs physical help.
The purpose is to sit with him, serve him with love, and make him genuinely happy that his son came home.
Cook for him. Sit beside him. Listen to whatever he wants to say. Make him feel — truly feel — that his son values and honours him.
Then, when you are leaving, if he raises his hands and sincerely makes dua for you from the depths of his heart, that prayer carries a weight that no business strategy can replicate.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) placed the pleasure of Allah alongside the pleasure of parents. That relationship is not symbolic — it has real, tangible effects on what enters your life and what leaves it.
The Dua of a Parent Is Not Small
Many of the small, recurring losses people experience — the accidents, the missed opportunities, the financial setbacks that happen without explanation — can dissolve through the consistent, sincere dua of a living parent.
This is not superstition. This is something generations of scholars, elders, and ordinary people have witnessed repeatedly.
If your mother or father is alive, their happiness is one of the most powerful tools you have.
Do not wait until it is too late to use it.
Advice Two: Make Charity a Fixed Monthly Habit
The second piece of advice was about sadaqah — regular, consistent charity.
Many people donate occasionally, sometimes generously. Ten percent here, fifteen percent during Ramadan. A large amount when something good happens.
That generosity is appreciated. But consistency matters more than size.
Why Monthly and Why Fixed?
I often suggest setting aside around 5% of your monthly income or savings as a fixed sadaqah amount.
The exact percentage is not the critical part. What matters is that it becomes a habit — something you give every month without exception, even in difficult months.
Especially in difficult months.
When you give during a hard time, the intention behind it is purer. You are not giving from abundance — you are giving from trust in Allah’s promise that He will replace what is spent in His cause.
How to Give It Right
Two things matter beyond the amount itself.
First: Make sure it reaches someone who truly needs it — not a comfortable organization, not a well-funded cause. A real person facing a real need.
Second: Give it in a way that preserves their dignity. The person receiving should never feel humiliated or embarrassed.
Sadaqah given with kindness and respect carries a different weight than sadaqah given carelessly.
When both conditions are met — genuine need and genuine dignity — we hope Allah accepts it fully and places barakah in our wealth, our time, and our affairs.
Two Simple Commitments That Change the Pattern
The two pieces of advice I gave him were not complicated:
- Visit your father regularly. Serve him sincerely. Let him pray for you from his heart.
- Give a fixed amount in sadaqah every month. Make it consistent. Make it dignified.
Neither of these requires significant money. Neither requires special knowledge or connections.
Both require sincerity — and sincerity is the part that actually activates the blessing.
My Honest Belief After Decades of Experience
I have been in business for over 23 years. I have seen people with exceptional strategies fail and people with ordinary plans succeed beyond expectations.
The difference, more often than I can count, has come down to something invisible — the quality of a person’s character, their relationships with those who raised them, and their consistency in giving to others.
These are not things that appear in a business plan. But they show up in results.
If your intentions are genuine, if you serve your parents with sincerity, and if your charity is given with a clean heart — I believe, from everything I have witnessed, that Allah will place blessings in your efforts and open doors you didn’t expect.
Now I Want to Hear From You
This conversation started with one man’s question. But I think many people reading this are asking the same thing in different words.
So let me ask you directly:
How do you serve your parents?
Do you give charity regularly — and has it changed anything for you?
Is there a habit, an action, or a decision you made that you believe brought real blessings into your life?
Share your thoughts in the comments. These conversations matter, and your experience might be exactly what someone else needs to read today.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the most important thing a person can do to bring blessings into their business?
Based on both Islamic teachings and real-life observation, serving parents sincerely and giving regular charity are two of the most consistently impactful habits. Neither requires large amounts of money — both require genuine intention and consistency. - How much charity should a person give each month?
There is no fixed rule, but a consistent amount around 5% of monthly income is a practical and meaningful starting point. Consistency matters more than size — giving a smaller amount every month reliably is more powerful than occasional large donations. - Why does the dua of parents have such a strong effect?
Islamic teachings place the pleasure of parents alongside the pleasure of Allah. A parent’s sincere prayer for their child, made from genuine happiness and love, is considered one of the most answered of all duas. This is why making parents genuinely happy — not just providing for them — is so important. - How should charity be given to have the most impact?
Identify someone with a genuine need, give directly where possible, and preserve their dignity completely in how the giving is done. Charity that reaches real need and maintains the recipient’s self-respect carries the most barakah. - Does this advice only apply to people with business problems?
No. Serving parents sincerely and giving regular charity are habits that bring blessings into every area of life — health, relationships, peace of mind, and professional success. The man in this story came with a business problem, but the advice applies universally.
